Planatearth to raise public awareness about marine litter has built fish sculptures at Kuzhuppily,
Cherai Beach, and Munambam Harbor which are made of 1003 discarded slippers that were
recovered from the ocean under the project DROP. The sculptures are constructed from 1003
abandoned slippers that were recovered from the water as part of the DROP project. The purpose
of the installation is to raise awareness to fishermen who, during their voyages, bring trash into the
ocean with them. Fishing operations of all kinds deposit tons of plastics into the ocean. The
sculptures are created from flip-flops that fishermen have found. Flip-flops floating in the ocean
were gathered by fishermen, and Planatearth retrieved the plastics utilizing a community-wide
effort. Fishermen have gathered more than 4.7 tonnes of plastics through DROP: Drive to Recover
Ocean Plastic in the last 12 months. Through the construction of these projects, Planatearth aims
to raise public awareness of the importance of ocean conservation. Additionally, Planatearth
installed selfie boards in Munambam, Kuzhuppilly, and Cherai to inform visitors about the need
to put an end to ocean pollution
